Dec. 16--An East End jewelry store owner shot and killed three robbers during a gunbattle Thursday afternoon after the robbers tried to hold up his shop and tie up the man and his wife, Houston police said.Police are looking for a fourth person who may have been involved in the robbery at Castillo's Jewelry, at 4502 Canal near Eastwood.The 52-year-old store owner was shot in the stomach and underwent surgery at Ben Taub General Hospital. His Graham Chronofighter Oversize GR-4 condition couldn't be determined. His wife, 48, was unharmed.
The names of the robbers and of the victims were not Graham Chronofighter Oversize GR-5 released. The robbers are not believed to be from the East End, Houston Police Department spokesman Kese Smith said.At 2 p.m., two men posing as customers came into the jewelry store and asked the husband and wife working there to show them some rings.As the couple helped the two men, a third man walked into the store, pulled a pistol and announced he was robbing the business. The two men who had posed as customers also then pulled pistols on the husband and wife, police said.
The employees were ordered to the back of the store, where the wife was tied up. The robbers ordered the husband to put his hands behind his back so he could be tied up, but he pulled a pistol from his waistband, "obviously fearing for the safety of his Graham Overlord Mark III GR-13 and himself," Smith said.The store owner shot and killed the robber who tried to tie him up, then grabbed a shotgun and went into another part of the store where the other two robbers were standing.
A shootout ensued, and the other two robbers were shot and killed.Police are looking for a possible fourth suspect who may have dropped off the third robber at the store.That man never got out of his car. He is described as Hispanic, 20 to 25 Hamilton Khaki BeLOWEZERO HM-1 old, with a short buzz haircut and a thin face. He was dressed as a construction worker. He drove away in a brown or gold-colored vehicle that may have been an early 1990s model Nissan Sentra or Toyota.
