Well, besides going to out of control entitlements, it also goes to pay the salaries of government bureaucrats who, on average, make more than their equivalents in the private sector.
The Heritage Foundation just released a comprehensive report on this issue. The conclusion, no surprise, federal bureaucrats are overpaid.Here now, Jason Richwine, the co-author of the report and the senior policy analyst there. Jason, welcome here. So, who's overpaid and how much overpaid are they? Give us an example of private sector doing Tiffany 1837 bangle work, if there is such a thing, as public sector and the pay differentials.JASON RICHWINE, HERITAGE FOUNDATION: Well, again, it depends exactly on who you're talking about, but the average difference in terms of cash wages is probably somewhere in the range of 10 to 20 percent.

So, question Greg, you know I love your publication, I read it every week, what kind of a recovery can there be when it's essentially jobless?IP: Look, I agree. And there have been some positive signs on that, however. We did start creating meaningful numbers of private sector jobs back in august. The unemployment rate has come down fairly sharply in the last two months. We see it in the price of fresh fruit. Inflation. NAPOLITANO: My next guest says the economy has been showing signs of life with the stock market on a seven-day winning streak. He also says things are about to get even better. Welcome to FREEDOM WATCH.GREG IP, THE ECONOMIST U.S. ECONOMICS EDITOR: thanks for having me.NAPOLITANO: What do you see that is so different from the free market and Austrian economists who see gloom and doom coming in the future, who see inflation and unemployment and taxes all going up?
IP: Maybe, I'm Just a more optimistic guy. Look, I actually think the Austrians might have a point, and it goes like this. After a recession that's as deep as the one we had, you would normally Tiffany Signature bangle the economy to be growing around 6 to 8 percent right now. That's what it did back in 1983 when we had a recession of comparable debt. We're only growing about 3 or 4 percent.NAPOLITANO: Right.IP: But here's the thing, three or four months ago, people were so gloomy, they thought they were talking double-dip, they Tiffany & Co. bangle talking stagnation, they were talking is Japan all over again. The unemployment rate is never going to come down. I always thought that was overdone. And the reason it's overdone is number one, we have fundamental strengths that are better than say Japan had,
and the situation you have here is after a financial crisis that's caused by too much debt, people want to pay down that debt.But as long as they don't pay it down too fast, there's room for the economy to grow. And that in fact is what we have seen. We just got information a few days ago that after declining far couple years, the amount of money that people, consumers, are Tiffany 1837 interlocking circles bangle to borrow has started to go up. And if you talk to banks as the fed does, they do these quarterly surveys, they find that banks are finally like easing the standards under which they make loans after tightening them consistently for so many years.
Will the president, will the Democrats support the balanced budget amendment that you've offered in order to get your vote and the votes of other fiscally conservative Republicans to raise the debt ceiling?LEE: It is uncertain at this point. I'm not seeing a lot of positive signals from the Democratic side of the aisle on this point yet. I'm withholding judgments on that. Heart tag charm Toggle bracelet if that's the case, then I will continue with my plan to resist any effort to raise the national debt ceiling with everything in me.NAPOLITANO: We just had your colleague from Kentucky, your fellow tea party member, Senator Rand Paul on, suggesting offering and defending a truly courageous proposal to cut the president's budget by half a trillion dollars. Do you support that? Do other Republicans in the Senate support it?
LEE: I certainly support the effort to achieve cuts of that magnitude or even larger. I haven't had a chance to review all the particulars of it yet. I applaud him for his effort. I'm going Pierced charm bracelet be reviewing that and figuring out whether and to what extent I can support it.NAPOLITANO: Is this a hopeless situation? Are we forever in this sort of Ponzi scheme of borrowing money to pay off prior debts, borrowing money to pay off interests, hoping the taxpayers won't notice that things will gradually and gradually Heart Band Bangle gradually get worse and worse and worse or at some points will guys like you and Rand Paul and women like Michele Bachmann just say enough is enough, it's not going to happen anymore, we're turning the tide right now?
LEE: It's definitely not hopeless, judge. The reason it's not is because the American people are demanding more of Congress. I think it's the only way we're going to fix the problem. But it is going to get fixed.
